So you just got your windshield replaced, and you’re wondering what aftercare steps to take to insure a long-lasting seal. Keep reading to find out what our glass experts suggest for aftercare for a newly replaced windshield.
Leave the tape on
One of the biggest rules for aftercare of a newly installed windshield is to leave the tape on the windshield. You must leave the tape on for at least 24 hours after a newly installed windshield. This keeps dust and dirt particles out of the adhesive between your vehicle and the glass. Until the adhesive sets completely it is critical to your windshield to leave the tape on.
Say no to carwashes please!
Our glass experts use a specific adhesive to attack the windshield to your vehicle. This can take up to 24 hours to create a fully set seal which is why car washes are a no go. Until its been at least 24 to 48 hours hold off on washing your car to ensure a proper seal. Getting a car wash before this can result to improper sealing and leaking.
Steer clear from direct sunlight
When auto glass adhesive is exposed to direct sunlight for long periods of time, it can postpone the drying of the glue. Direct sunlight can result in weakening the auto glass so its best to avoid this until the adhesive is completely set.
Pause this weekends road trip
